the popular Prolific PL-2303hx USB to Serial Bridge
Controller (many newer USB>serial converters
use some newer cheaper controllers and may have compatibility problems),
it is compatible with all recent OS (WinXP, 2K, ME, 98) and most makes of PC.

Note:
By design, iFinder
range of GPS can only transfer data through SD card. Data cable is primarily used
for NMEA data which is for use with mapping/navigation
software on PC.
However, data transfer may be possible with data cable if there is suitable software.
FAQ: Do
you make Garmin round type interface? Because Garmin R type
GPS requires higher voltage and different models requires different voltage input,
it is not practically possible to make one that is suitable for all GPS. We could
make one WITHOUT power supply to GPS but that is probably low in demand.
When
I connect USGM with
a GPS, Windows detects Microsoft Ballpoint device then the mouse cursor on screen
becaomes erratic, what happens and what should I do? This can
happen sometimes with cables using PL-2303 controller, particularly if you connect
all cables before you switch on computer, or you connect USGM
and GPS cable and then insert USGM into USB
port. Solution: 1. Disconnect USGM
and GPS cables. 2. Reboot computer 3. Connect ONLY USGM
to USB port 4. Connect GPS cable It
should now work normally.
I connect the GPS with
PC, everything seems to be OK but the GPS software cannot detect the GPS? USB>Serial Converter driver installs a virtual port AFTER all physical com
port in the PC (if any), internal modem, AND othe virtual com ports (such
as mobile phone modems) you may have installed. So the com port installed may
be 3, or 4, or 7,8 etc. Most GPS software can only be configured to use com
1 to 4, some even can only use com 1. So you have to re-assign (re-arrange) the
com port that USGM uses, and the one that
your GPS software uses so that they match.
Is data
transfer faster than with a serial cable? No. You can transfer
data only with serial port and USGM is a USB>serial
converter. So the transfer speed is the same as if you are using a serial cable.
Do you make a longer cable? Most
users would prefer even shorter cable for use with laptop and home PC with front
USB input. We considered 120cm being the optimum length as the cable is very light/compact
for those who want portability. However, if you do need a longer cable, you can
always get a USB extension cable which can be bought cheaply from a computer shop.
