Installation of modem in Win95/98/ME for SNZ5D / SNDJ5:

We have been receiving many emails asking for Modem driver for Z5/J5 even though we repeatedly told them no driver is necessary and that  it is very unlikely to work if it is not our cable (SNZ5D / SNDJ5).

Anyway, if you like to try, this is it:

Installation of modem in Win95/98:
No special driver is necessary. Install a standard  9600bps (or 19200bps) modem:
(You do not have to connect the cable/phone to install the modem)

Click START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>
Double click MODEMS, click ADD, check OTHER, click NEXT,
Tick DON'T DETECT MY MODEM; I WILL SELECT IT FROM A LIST, click NEXT,
On left hand side Highlight (STANDARD MODEM TYPES)
On right hand side Highlight STANDARD 9600 BPS MODEM, click NEXT,
Highlight the correct COMMUNICATION PORT (1 OR 2) that the cable will be connected to,
Click NEXT, click FINISH.

You can now use 9600bps modem for dial-up networking.
You can configure in dial-up networking to use maximum speed of 38,400bps. Depending on your network support (with compression), it could connect initially at that speed as shown in connection dialogue. But connection could be unstable and you are advised to configure the maximum speed at 9600bps which will give you more stable connection. But you could experiment with various speeds.

Simple test:
Connect cable/phone, run Phone Dialer (Windows Accessory) - Under TOOLS>CONNECT USING>LINE> Choose STANDARD 9600 BPS MODEM > click OK.
Then dial a number (home/office number so that you can hear it ring).
If it dials then the cable/phone/modem is working. (If not, check configuration/connection)

You MUST have DATA enabled on your mobile phone line from your network. Because Phone Dialer uses a modem to dial so it is a DATA call even if it dials to a voice line.
If you do not have data enabled on your line, Phone Dialer will attempt to dial briefly and then disconnect itself.

Phone dialer is the simplest/best utility to test. If phone dialer works, it means everything (cable, phone, network, computer settings) is working. If it does not work, then one or more factors needs attention. Most of the time it is caused by software/hardware conflicts.

Important: Your phone is NOT configured for data by default.
If you have not used the phone for data before, you must configure it:
Settings>Call settings>Data services>Serial speed>Automatic (press jog dial)
Automatic serial speed is best for most applications, although almost all speed should work for data.
