DIY  USB Extension  cable for PSP.

Many users find using Sony PSP-290 GPS away from PSP improves the GPS signal as PSP is generating some interference to the GPS due to the proximity of the 2 devices.

We do sell a mini-USB extension cable in CMUE. But PSP-290 requires power which is provided by the connections on either side of the mini-USB port. We have been asked to consider making such cable. But cost of developing such cable is high and we do not expect to recoup even the cost with the expected sales quantity/price.

Some users are improvising CMUE with success. It is with that idea we are providing alternative/easier methods so many of you can make such extension easily.

Parts you will need:
Other parts: 
Suitable length of wires (any thickness. 28AWG is best). 
Heat shrink tubing (optional) 
Soldering material. 

You can also use just one wire instead of 2. Just connect the power ( + ) pictured below. Ground  ( - ) is connected within the USB cable so it is not necessary.

Test (spring) pins: You can buy from local electronic/hardware store. Other length and size can also be usedCopper or contact strips for the female connector side. width can be 2mm-6mm. Bend the end about 1.5mm at right angle.CMUE of course. 
You are unlikely to find similar cable anywhere else.
How to do it:
File both sides of the female connector using a small flat file.File a groove in the middle of the male connector. Best tool to use is a small triangle file.Solder the pins. Cover with heat shrink tubingPosition the pins on both sides of the connectors and tape. Make sure you place the pins on the correct sides, or you will fry your GPS/camera!!This is what they look from the front
