Many
devices are now provided with a standard mini-USB cable as above for both data
transfer and power purpose. Some
devices are also provided with such cable for powering purpose only, and quite
often supply with a car USB adapter. Some
devices are also provided with an AC adapter for power/charge purpose.
If you find that your device can be charged
with the provided AC adapter, but NOT with the provided USB cable connected to
an USB AC/Car adapter, your device is probably built with the so-called "intelligent
USB port". This is what
happens: when your device is connected to a PC, the PC recognize its presence
and send a signal to the device to accept power from the USB port. When it is
not connected to a PC, but to USB power adapter (AC or car) instead, the device
does not receive the go ahead signal and stops accepting the power though momentarily
charging was accepted initially when the cable was connected. As
to the AC adapter supplied with these devices, they are so-called "intelligent
Mini-USB power charger". In these chargers, pin 4 and pin 5 are connected. The
device detects through pin 4 that a charger is presence so as to accept power.
One typical device is Motorola V series
mobile phone which started the trend. Many devices with mini-USB port now use
this method for charging.
This
is where our Mini-USB Intelligent Power Adapter MUDCAD
comes in. Pin 4 and pin are connected at the male end, telling the device to accept
power.
Please
note that there are many devices with Mini-USB ports and we cannot guarantee that
it is compatible with your device.If you find that your device can be
charged with the provided AC adapter, but NOT with the provided USB cable connected
to an USB AC/Car adapter, MUDCAD
is probably suitable. It is unlikely to do any harm if you try even if it does
not work. As far as we know, Motorola V series
phones and HTC phones
with ExtUSB ports are
compatible.
Note:
only MUDCAD has
pin 4 and pin 5 connected, no other cables/adapters on our list is wired this
way. If you use one of our power Y cables such as DC2DU,
DC2UU, MU2DU, MU2UU, you need to connect MUDCAD
between your device and min-USB end of the Y cable in order to power/charge your
"intelligent" device.
Even if you use your original AC charger,
which works connecting to your device directly, it will not work if you connect
your AC charger to MU2UU
and then your device. Because the mini-USB end of MU2UU is standard (pin 4 not
connected) so you will also need MUDCAD if you ware using our power Y cables.
