We call this universal
because it can be used for almost all PDA for charging purpose.
With a normal PC, the
output from the USB port is 5v, 500mA, which can charge satisfactorily PDA devices
requiring 5.5v or less. Such are Compaq Ipaq (5.0v/2A), Casio E100/105/115 (5.0v/2A),
Sony Clie T/NR series (5.2v/2A), Palm M500 (5.0v/1A), Toshiba/AudioVox (5.0v/3A),
T-Mobile/XDA (5.0v/1A).
But PC USB port cannot
charge satisfactorily for PDAs requiring more than 5.5v such as Casio E125/EM500
(5.9v/2A), Sony Clie S/N series (5.7v/1A).
Our Car USB adapter is specially made to output 5.5v (other car USB adapters are made to output 5v/500mA as normal PC USB port), and averaging 750mA, therefore all the above mentioned PDAs can be charged satisfactorily.
Actual output voltage and current is affected by input (cigar lighter) and the devices it is attached to but will be in the range of 5.5v (+/-5%) and 600mA-900mA.
FAQ:
My PDA (Ipaq/Toshiba/XDA) requires 5.0v, will 5.5v
be to high and harm it?
No. Most devices (any electronic device) will work
happily with input of 10% more or less than required. While an input of
more than 10% less than required may not work on the device, an input of more
(say 10-20% more voltage) can be accepted by the device happily without harming
it. Many electronic devices (especially high end devices like PDAs) have input
restrictions/protections.
If anything, a slightly higher input works better.
Of course this is general and there may be exceptions.
If you are still worried, may be you should look for
another one that you feel comfortable with.
This car USB adapter (5.5v) will work with all the above mentioned PDAs.
